Default Favourite chanter pitch

What would be your preferred chanter pitch?

I’d say mine is around 470 to 475, but a higher pitch such as 480hz also sounds very pleasant to me. It is also in tune with the electrical hum of the 60hz AC frequency

I'm going down to 466, luckily I don't play in a band!

466 for me as well. I fell in love with the sound of the pipes at that pitch a couple of years ago, and I never looked back!

I'll go with 470 + or - a few cents.

In the cooler Northern reaches, when I was in NY State, I aimed for 470 to 472 with my 1994 Kilgour & Krone Pipes. Currently in the swamp infused high humidity of the Gulf Coast, 472 to 476 seems to be the average range. Things seem to have settled in 474 range so far this week. but the winds change and the humidity & temperature bounces around a lot so each day is an adventure in tuning.

Yes. I use the Shepherd Orchestral and RTS Bb reed combo too.

I also quite like the McCallum Ceol Bb...which has a ‘brighter’ sound IMO than the other.

Yes, the Shepherd Bflats are good if you can get them...for me, the Orchestral is the premier Bflat chanter and it comes thru very well on recordings, particularly on the ones I've done and the Regimental ones...I haven't played the others that have followed Shepherd's lead.
