I think they are a mix of pipers & drummers from two of the battalions in 46 Brigade, 15th Scottish Division. Member battalions in 1944 were 2nd Glasgow Highlanders (their cap badge was very similar to that of the Black Watch), 7th Seaforth Highlanders, and 9th Cameronians.

The corporal kneeling on the right has a rifleman's rank badge (green stripes on a black background). The same guy's divisional shoulder patch looks similar to that of the 15th Scottish Division. Interestingly, there doesn't seem to be any Seaforths in the photo. BTW, the PM of the 7th Seaforths was Donald MacLeod.

Could well be. The 2nd Batt Glasgow Highlanders led by Lt-Col. P. Hunt were certainly in Eindhoven in Sept 1944. The badge is very similar to the 42nd BW.

But, as you say, there were many regiments in the area at that time.

I don't believe the 'corporal' kneeling is wearing corporal chevrons.....although it is difficult to make out clearly.

It appears to me to be a 'regimental battle patch' (rather than chevrons) and specifically that of the Glasgow Highlanders which you will also see being worn by the Sergeant third from the left and the drummer kneeling down in the middle.

The battalion wore a square/diamond patch in government tartan in that very manner.

The Black Watch patch was different, being in the shape of the Black Watch cap badge, which again make me think it is more likely a photo of the 2nd Bn. Glasgow Highlanders.

Although he doesn't appear to be in that photo, the Pipe-Major of one of the two WW2 battalions of the Glasgow Highlanders was Pipe-Major Ian MacDonald MacLeod (b1918 to d1974) who later went on to become Pipe-Major of the 602 (City of Glasgow) Squadron, RAF in the late 1940s/early 1950s.

During WW2, he lost the middle finger on his left hand and learnt to play using his little finger instead.

He had two brothers who played, one called Hector and another Peter Roderick MacLeod (jr) who went on to become Pipe-Major of the 2nd Bn. Rhodesia Regiment.

Their father was the great composer, Pipe-Major Peter Roderick MacLeod (Sr) who served as Pipe-Major of the 7th Cameronians (Scottish Rifles) during WW1.

I have passed all these great bits of information onto the person whose photo it was. She had posted on a Genealogy Forum. Thank you so much -it's a wealth of information.
