Default Another Odd Duck Music Question...

Greetings to All,

Ah... neurology... and our on-going waltz about...
with... The Great Beast... and The Piping Game...

Having now yet another go around... and for these
last several days... I am curious as to how many
of us... awake with a tune in our heads... and then
especially if there is a song attached to it... and it
just won't go away...

A common occurrence? Or not?

Just thought... I would ask... :)

Regards to All,

Pip01

Oh yeah
Sometimes referred to as an "ear worm".
Happens to me all the time, and not just pipe tunes.
Classic Rock is the worst offender, but maybe that's just
because I'm old.
Cheers

Worst ( or maybe best?) scenario: When I was teaching middle school and Kindergarten music, I wrote a number of songs for the "wee fidgets" having to do with things they were studying, etc. One of the Kindergarten teachers was having problems with kids in her class picking at scabs, and asked if i'd write a song about that. My first reaction was ummm, no. But then I woke up at 3 the next morning with the song running in my mind over and over and thus "Don't Go Pickin' At Boo-Boos" became a huge hit with the little kids.

Hmmm,..I think if I woke up without a tune running. ....I'd check my pulse.

The tunes in my head are not a problem. It helps drown out the voices
The big problem is the fingers constantly playing along with the tunes in my head on pens, steering wheel, edge of the desk, pint glass in pub, etc.

I used to keep a music notebook by the bed to write down tunes that came to me in dreams. I got quite a few good ones in that other realm of the dream world. Sadly, those don't happen anymore. The Fey have abandoned me.

Ah yes... not always a pipe tune, and frequently changing
after a bit... I'll have to dig in my 'Psychology of Music".
(Need to stop replying, interferes with the tune

Those old-fashioned tunes that go by the name of So-and-so's Maggot - a maggot is an old-fashioned name for an ear-worm. So beware of playing, them, especially before bedtime.

Yeah, those ear-worm bits of tunes or catchy jingles can really burrow in. My Mom used to go about the house humming a snippet of tune over and over until we would holler or hum another snippet to another tune to re-set her. I have been accused of doing the same thing.
