Default Bermuda pipers

Just got back from a cruise to Bermuda. trip was great and Friday when we were leaving there were two pipers sending us off. I am guessing someone hired them for someones birthday. It was nice to hear. If they are members of these forums thanks for the great send off.

I remember many years ago at the worlds (80s I think) Im sure a band from Bermuda played at it, I remember because they sounded terrible, but I thought this should be what the worlds is all about, any band no matter how good or bad playing at the competition, when they came off they all shook hands and were very proud to have taken part.

I seem to recall some pipers from Bermuda at the first Marie Curie parade in Edinburgh (1995?). I think they were called the Bermuda Isles Pipe Band, and one had the Bermuda ensign on his bass drone. Because they had come from somewhere that was exotic to us Scots, they featured in the local newspaper.

If Thomas Grottian is still posting here, maybe he can confirm if it really happened, or if I am havering.

Many years ago the Bermuda PB appeared in the Stone Mountain Tattoo, used to be a big part of the games until we lost the venue. Nice bunch of guys. Later on my wife and I took a short vacation there and met one of them and had a grand time at dinner with he and his wife.

I met the Bermuda Band at the Virginia Tattoo, and it was really no surprise that x3 of its members are serving police officers. One of those guys had recently transferred / joined the force from the Metropolitan Police in London UK

One of my band mates is an ex-member of the Bermuda Pipe Band and stays in regular contact with their PM.

Adam is correct, there were a couple of pipers from Bemuda in that first parade in 1995, although the guy with the Red Ensign on his bass drone was an ex-pat Bermudan called Eldon Zuill, who now lives in Fife.

However, the full Bermuda Islands Pipe Band did make it over for susbsequent parades, including the one in New York in 2002. Since then I have bumped into them a couple of times at various events. They played at the Nova Scotia Tattoo a few years ago, and their Bass Drummer was brought back here by his wife as a surprise wedding anniversary present this year. Good to see him again. He posts on here from time to time.

I went on a Bermuda cruise several years ago and remember hearing pipes one evening. I didn't get close enough to see them or hear them in detail, they had cleared out by the time I got to the rail. We did a kayak tour and one of the leaders (Bermuda native) was a highland dancer; her dad was a piper.
