Default Android software

Just bought myself a wonderful new Android table (Galaxy Tab S7). Only one possible drawback so far - maybe no piping related software.

The Apps that I use at the moment on my iPad/Windows 10 machine are Blair tuner and a couple of ABC music writing apps. I'd maybe like to install a piping-specific music writer as well.

Is there any software like any of these available for Android?

I also have a Galaxy Tab 7.

I use the Braw pipe tuner. It is excellent.

Droid Piper allows you to play and edit BMW files.

The Pipers Metronome is also excellent.

Sound Spectrum Pro allows you to see the frequency profile of your pipes in real time.

There is an ABC Music app but I have not used it.

I have PitchLab Lite (free) on my Android phone. It is an accurate tuning application and you can set the reference frequency to suit the pitch you want to tune your chanter to.

I think PitchLab is no longer available, except rather oddly via the Amazon app store. It is however a wonderful app, and if you can acquire a copy it's well worth it.

I highly, highly recommend Ensemble, here.

It is made by pipers for pipers and is web based. You can import ABC and BMW. It is all touch/mouse based, no 'coding'. I use it on my tablet as well as my computers to edit, playback, practice, arrange, print, and create medleys/MSRs. Playback currently has practice chanter, synthetic pipes, real bagpipes in B and A for all.

If you're looking for a tuner the Peterson Strobo or Braw, as others have mentioned, are the go to's. The Braw has the advantage of seeing visually where your notes are at individually on sliders to get an idea how sharp or flat. This is very helpful when stopping and taping notes to look down to see how far you should move the tape.

The Peterson has the advantage of the 'sweetener' package you can purchase which is highly accurate and this tuning is phenomenal. I have paid for both apps and found that I actually use and prefer a physical Peterson StroboPlus to the app. The Braw is the best bang for the buck and very close to the Peterson if you're trying to pick one solution. I still prefer the Peterson overall.

Stupid question, but how do you set up PitchLab for GHB? It's not one of the instruments in the Instrument Tuning Pack add-on...

Ah, it may be only available in the "pro" version of the software, which you might not be able to unlock because it's no longer on the app store. I'm not sure; it's there in my list of tunings, among a jillion others.

That said, I tend to use the BeeFlat app for chanters - I find it very accurate and the pitch trace is incredibly helpful. I use Pitchlab for all my other instruments!

Press the screen until the PitchLab Views menu comes up.
Select Options, then set the A4 Frequency to 480. This will set A on the chanter to between B flat and B which is where chanters are normally tuned these days.
