Default Bathgate Highland Games

Hi,

Does anyone have info (composer, book source, etc.) on the 9/8 tune "Bathgate Highland Games"?

Maybe you mean Bathgate Highland Gathering, 9/8 march by Robert Abbott. There are a couple of clips on YouTube. Cheers! Phil

Thanks. Same tune but slightly different names. Again, in what book is it published?

Paul

Hmmm...I'll have to start digging....I believe I saw it recently in a regimental book and was sort of surprised....not any of the SG books...but I got the tune about 10 yrs ago from a SGPM friend.

I asked Boghall & Bathgate Caledonia Pipe Band about the tune "Bathgate Highland Games" and they said that it was composed by Bob Abbott, but as far as they know it had not been published.

Bathgate Highland Gathering and Bathgate Highland Games are the same 9/8. Older guys over here tend to say Bathgate Highland Games is the original name, but I don't know about that, I'm much too young.

It's one of those tunes that most people have played but not had the sheet music, much like Itchy Fingers. I don't know of it in any books, but looking online I see it's on Jack Lee's site
here with an audio file.

Fwiw...I have Bathgate (Highland Gathering) since 2001 as a setting by Rob Abbot, Feb. 1999 from a SGPM friend. It looks like it's photocopied from a book....

Funny about Itchy Fingers....I'd swear I was surprised about a year ago to see it in a book with PM Jimmy Banks name on the setting.

I know Itchy is in a book 'Seconds From the Edge' by Gordon McDonald on this BDF forum. A great volume of many great tunes with harmonies.
