Default Ackland A466 Drone Reeds!

Terry Ackland made me a set of his reeds that are pitched at 466, and I got to try them out in my Gibsons yesterday! These are some powerful reeds, and they blended well with my McCallum Bb chanter! I don't have a recording of myself playing them, but Patrick McLauren has videos of him playing Ackland A440 reeds on his website, so you can get an idea of the strength of the sound of Ackland reeds:

I can't link directly to the pic I took of my set, but here's a link to the pic on Google Drive that will hopefully work! ;-)

Terry doesn't currently have a website, but he can be reached at t.ackland1@gmail.com.

Kevin, I'm pleased the reeds worked OK, surprising as there was very little development, I just chopped down the A440 reeds!
Looking at the image you provided of your setup, the tenors could be tad longer?
I have mailed off a set to Patrick McLaurin, he has a collection of pipes and is willing to test the reeds out and record a few tunes.

The tenors probably could be a bit longer to accommodate a variety of bore sizes, but the ones you sent me work perfectly in my Gibsons with the plugs in the position in my pic! Looking forward to Patrick's recordings!

Kevin, on Friday I mailed you off a pair of revised tenors to which I had added 1/4 inch to the bodies, so should put the tuning pins at about the mid point on your setup.

Got the tenors last night, and they sound great!! That bit of length makes quite a difference in where the tuning plugs sit, so these should be adjustable for pretty much any drones!

Here's a pic of the current setup:

This blog post contains a recording of the first iteration of the Bb reeds before they were lengthened just slightly as mentioned in this thread. It is representative of the Ackland style reed nonetheless, be they his 440, 466, or 480 reeds. Full, solid sound.

For anyone wanting to hear an older design of Ackland's reeds in modern pipe tuning, take a look here: https://youtu.be/N5hsR9RT_tU

Those reeds were earlier development reeds that were mailed out by mistake, and being a freebie set and as the piper does not play A-480 I did not replace them. Unfortunately you got hold of them and decided on a Youtube review which I think is damaging.
Why would you then try to steer Dunsire members to your Youtube site to hear reeds that will never ever be available, unless it is about self promotion?
