Default Ack! I can't play my new presents!

Anyone do something to themselves where they couldn't play for a few weeks. 3 days before xmas I had a bad crash in front of my house and ended up with a concussion and broken ribs. I guess the worst part is I have a new WMC bag and Kyo chanter I can't play and then the relentless bagpipe dreams. Anyway a couple more days!

Many years ago my old PM broke his arm, had to wear a big cast for some time.

When the doctor said that the cast would cover his arm and hand, but his fingers and thumb would be sticking out, the PM specified the exact positioning of the fingers and thumb he wanted, and he was able to play the pipes fairly well. (It was his upper hand on the chanter.)

There are photos somewhere of him doing gigs with that cast!

Many years ago, my horse threw me (my fault, though!) and I broke 5 ribs...4 on the left side (naturally, it HAD to be there!) and one in the back. I was out of piping for 6 months! Even after all these years, after a long blow, I can sometimes feel some discomfort on my left side.

I've had three surgeries in the last 10 years that impacted my piping-- two shoulders and a small hernia. Each required me to (of course) be off of any piping for a few months each go. That sucked.

John:

Similar story here: a week before gall bladder surgery, my new pipes arrived and I was forced to wait 3-4 weeks after surgery to get back to them. The month was a loss and, of course, the loss of muscle tone and stamina took a while to regain. Best of luck.

In 50 years of horses I flew off quite a few and never did master that rodeo thing either but I don't remember more than a few days of hurting. In between different players watching the storm yesterday I couldn't help but play, today I'm hurting again. Anyway Cancun for the next few weeks and I'm leaving the pipes at home!

A week after the competition in Reno two years ago, I slipped on the back step and messed up my back. Couldn't stand or walk for weeks.

Then, a week after the Reno competition LAST year, I slipped on that same damn step, and broke one wrist and sprained the other. Not gonna list the things I couldn't do....

Didn't hurt myself after Reno this year.... WHEW!!!!

Am awaiting my new upper front tooth implant to be installed. Had a tooth removed, the post put in and am healing nicely. The piping tooth is next. I opted for the strongest although costliest solution. The three prior attempts to save it only forestalled this outcome by as many years.

Put some grip tape on the front edge of that step. Should fix the problem.
