Default Reduction in EUSPBA Grade 4?

I try to take in some EUSPBA competitions when I can. I've been to several as a spectator though I live in California.

Being a Pipe Band person I seek out the Games with the biggest band competitions. I do this by looking at the "results" on the EUSPBA site.

Just now I noticed a significant reduction in the number (halved or nearly halved) of G4 bands at a couple of the larger EUSPBA comps between 2015 and 2016. Why is this so?

For example:

Colonial (Fair Hill MD)
2015: G2 0, G3 8, G4 7, G5 7
2016: G2 1, G3 5, G4 4, G5 11

Stone Mountain (Atlanta GA)
2015: G3 3, G4 8, G5 11
2016: G3 6, G4 4, G5 8

When I attended Colonial in 2014 there was a good Grade 2 competition.

I'm planning my 2017 Eastern visit. Does anyone know what the lineup for Colonial might be? Thanks!

I can't speak to the numbers at Stone Mountain, but I can say the reason for the decrease in bands at Fair Hill this year was the weather. It rained. Bad. At least 4 bands canceled. Worst weather I've ever seen at a highland games in more than 25 years.

Wow thanks for that info.

I only attended Fair Hill once, the weather was gorgeous. Perhaps I was lucky.

I think the Bridgeport Games (WV) got rained out last year, cancelled altogether.

I recall seeing, in looking over the competition results, that the G4 results said "MSR mini bands". What's up with that? No Medley, no March Medley?

There were a number of factors in the Stone Mountain Contest.

I know Wake and District (5, 4, and 3) couldn't be there because some of the key members had to travel for work. Some of the other bands that are typically there weren't there for reasons I'm unaware of but maybe someone will chime in. A few g4 bands have folded.
