Default O Canada setting for border pipes/reelpipes

To honor Canada Day today, I thought I'd put together a setting of "O Canada" for the pipes. In the end, however, the setting I came up with only really works on border pipes and reelpipes, as it has E-flats and C-naturals. But I think it's pretty cool! Here's the link

And here's a YouTube of me playing the tune: https://youtu.be/WMqnJE-VSkE

Happy Canada Day!

Matt, thanks from Canada. This is a good sounding arrangement. Most of us are probably more used to hearing the last three notes ascending but I have heard them descend like this before too. I never thought I would hear a decent arrangement on pipes. The two(?) Eb's are unfortunate; without them it would be accessible on most GHB and some SSP chanters.

Best regards,
Kevin

If you transpose it up to A , you'll still have the Eb (D#)* and also require G#, and Fnat, which can be done with cross fingering. In A, the last three notes would be E, High G# [0/xx0/xxxo] A/ Alternately, E, low g# [x/xxx/xx°] °= half-covered.
Admittedly unorthodox, but these fingerings do work on many chanter/reed combinations.

* D#/Eb [X/xx°/xoxo] is what works on my chanter.

It would probably work better with A-drones in A but there would be a lot more cross fingering. I haven't tried it yet, but Matt's version in G sounds good to me. I am planning to try it with G-drones (or drone-less) on my SSP and I think the ascending ending would go d-f#-g.

I rather liked the tension the A drones caused against the G melody. I now have some GHB arrangement ideas, but I'll likely wait until next Canada Day for that one!

For those who can't wrangle an Eb out of their chanters, low G seems to be a passable alternative in this tune, especially if you are playing with someone else who can play Eb.

Thanks again Matt.
