Default These pipes on eBay are a wow to me

There were some of these I thought Keith Jeffers had made like this at one point too--or in some fashion a thinner section.

Looks like we have two sets of them on ebay France then--this set is just up I wonder how much it will bring. Ideas on the wood--two toned is pretty cool.

I've wondered with these types of sets if the differences in the drone shapes affects the overall sound at all, if thicker would result in lower or heavier tone.

I wonder if they're homemade pipes?

Dorig Le Voyer made great Highland bagpipes along with other styles.
He made a Highland bagpipe chanter that was made for open style fingering...is this one of those?

It was once not unusual for makers to not worry about la bit of sap wood. Here are my pipes D Glens guesstimated at 1920s or older. http://imgur.com/IQHuLYD

"Les enchères sur cet objet sont terminées."

So I don't know what pipes those were, too bad I came too late to this discussion.

Dave Atherton talked about that in one of his articles, how the "classic" GHB makers had a more or less "form follows function" ethos, and the wall-thickness of their drones was fairly uniform.

Now was the issue tone, or avoiding having unnecessary weight on the shoulder, or both?

I do know that my c1905 Lawries had big bores and slender outer profiles and were very light on the shoulder. Possibly it was also due to them being Ebony rather than ABW.

For some reason many of the Scottish GHB makers in the 1960s and 1970s were making the bores smaller and the outside profiles thicker resulting in much heavier pipes.

In any case I like the look (and weight) of pipes that do the "form follows function" thing and avoid huge unnecessary thicknesses of wood.
