Default G1 Platinum Blackwood Chanter

Well hello all,

I was recently gifted a G1 Platinum Blackwood Chanter, itís an anniversary gift from the GF, and on itís way from Kirkcaldy.

Was wondering if anyone has any experience with them? I know the poly ones are great, so I assume the ABW is even better... but I havenít seen any reviews.

Very nice chanters, I had one for a while. Sounded with great with G1 Platinum and G1 Copper, as well as Husk and Chesney. Big sound, comfortable finger spacing.

Piper-hm,

I'd love to hear a bit more about your experience with the ABW. The poly has a wonderfully huge band sound, which I have been concerned is a tad too big for solos. I've been curious about the ABW as a possible solo chanter since it came out. Does it produce as big a sound as the poly, or is it a bit quieter?

As soon as I get it in my hands Iíll provide my humble 2pence, such as it is, and by no means should be taken a gospel.

But theoretically I would assume the following:

Just as loud, but smoother and less shrill (a common trait amongst poly chanters, hence I play a ABW Kilgour & Kron- the stock chanter for my pipes)

Iíll likely take video once I receive it, so as to give it an honest platform to be judged.

At $416CAD plus reed, setup, shipping and likely duties and taxes- I can only hope itís everything Iíve dreamed of.

And if it is, Iíll need the contact information for a good silversmith here in Canadialand...

Grade 4

Urlar and Var 1. Repeats observed.

Iím going with The Companyís Lament. Might play the Suibhal as well, to be an over achiever.

Sadly I have regressed in my on again and off again solo career. But itís for the best in this case as it levels the playing field for piobaireachd.
