Default Kinnaird reeds stopping (please help)

So I have a set of kinnaird evolution reeds and I want to play them in my 1950's henderson pipes.
The issue is that when the bag gets near the playing pressure of the chanter: The drone reeds stop.

I have played almost every other make of reed in these pipes, but kinnaird reeds are the only ones that can't handle the pressure.

I have tried everything that I can think of:
  1. Adjusting the screw in the reeds;
  2. Adding or removing the hemp at the reed base;
  3. Hairs under the tongue;
  4. Ensuring the reed is fixed into the drone;
  5. Trying the reeds a little looser in the drone;
  6. Lifting the bridle;
  7. Adding a small weight to the reed tongue;
  8. Combo's of the above.

The only change that keeps the reeds functioning is the lifting of the bridle (by quite a lot). The issue then is that the reeds are too flat and the tuning is therefore too low on the drones tuning pin.

These reeds really do sound nice, I like the smokey, slightly raspy sound, and they have good volume. Unfortunately, I have come to the conclusion that the pressure vs. air flow ratio of the reeds is likely wrong for my henderson drones.

Does anyone know how I could get these going?

Thanks in advance.

The drone reeds are stopping because they've been set too easy. You can make them harder by moving the O-ring bridles in the direction of the drone tops. This will most likely lower the pitch so you've got to adjust the set screws of the reeds.

Reach out to Rob Kinnaird for a set of stronger replacement tongues. I did. Could be the strength of your chanter reed is beyond the drones.

Only because this isn't on your list, did you try and scoot the bridal a little so more tongue is exposed? Just small amounts at a time and testing until it stops cutting out.

Kinnaird reeds come in multiple strengths. I would give them a shout and ask what they suggest.

I have a set of Kinnards, there are two lines on the body where the rubber O ring should be kept between.
