You'd have to have a much higher frustration tolerance (and a lot more time on your hands) than I do to bother with this.

Why not save your time and support a local (real) pipe maker?

I've done it for a knockabout pub set 15 or more years ago. Luckily, the drones were actually smooth on the bores. I got them sounding good, but when you figure what you're going to spend on drone reeds, a good bag and a playable chanter, you're not really saving much over a decent used set.
It's okay if you really like to tinker around and want a challenge, but it's probably not going to end up being your favorite set.

I would be nice to hear the pipes alone, but I guess that would make the challenge pointless. Although I would bank on them sounding find, and also with out refinement. Simply meaning not a very special sound, nor it a bad one either. Problem is at what cost would it take to get there. Doing this once as a beginner almost 20 years ago now I would have to say I wish I could have started with my Hardies.

I have had the "fun" of trying to make Pakistani sets just work on a regular basis as people bring the junk they purchased on the internet around for set up. I have given up, I just tell them it is not a musical instrument, it is a novelty, so try and get your money back. A complete and utter waste of my time to even take them out of the box.

Does anyone else think it would be better to combine this thread and "For the piper who has everything - a Chair! " and set a challenge to turn Pakistani bagpipes into chairs?
