Someone emailed me saying/asking:
"I recently bought a used horsehair sporran, and discovered that the hair of one of the tassels has come loose inside the bell. Any suggestions as to the best way to repair it? Hot glue gun, epoxy, etc." Anyone done this kind of repair and have any advice? Andrew

I would contact Joshua at Skye Highland Outfitters. The sporrans he makes are very nice and I'm sure he'd share information.

Now wrap the hair very tightly ,at least10 wraps, with waxed twine or string. (used by fishermen for rigging bait). then tie it of with a few half hitches. now cut off the zip tie, & slide the bell back into place. For added security, you could coat the hair at the top of the tassle with some clear silicone sealant, before the bell goes back, just don't overdo the quantity as it will squeeze out and ruin the tassle. Hope this helps...JBM10. |

Ran across someone with a tutorian on on making a horsehai sporran on another forum. They used gorilla glue on the hair tips. They used pastry cones for tassel tops. Thought that was a great idea.
