Bagpiper ‘regularly upskirted and groped’ by women at gigs
https://news.stv.tv/entertainment/ba...en-at-gigs?top So, fortunately, I've never been groped nor had photos taken up my kilt—I'm not performing nearly as much as many do—but I have been asked by women not infrequently what I'm wearing under my kilt. (Once, when asked by a female acquaintance at an event, I responded, "Are we trading information?" She looked sheepish and said, "No...") What is your experience? Groped? Photographed indecently? Andrew

Both! Several times!
When caught, I've simply told the offending female that she could be arrested, just as I could if the tables were turned. They usually just laugh it off, and toss down another drink! Just wait.... |

Yes to both, upkilt pics and groped by both sexes.(please don't yell at me gender-defenders, binary gender is my default setting).
Yes, it's awkward, fortunately I have the male privilege of not feeling like I might be in danger in from things getting out of hand. Female pipers might not be so lucky. I am also secure enough in my sexuality to not take offense by same sex encounters. I try to keep it in perspective of the event, which is usually fuelled by copius amounts of alcohol, and inhibitions are low.

No, but at a St. Patrick's Day celebration in the mid 80's, when several of us band pipers were hired out to escort some businessmen through a pub crawl, a drunk woman reached for the hem of my kilt. As she was wearing a dress, I reached down towards the hem of her skirt.
She laughed and pulled away. I figured nothing would happen either way. In today's more socially conscious climate I would just push her hand away and leave it at that. But I don't pipe in public anymore, so that sort of thing is a non-issue. |

Yes, happens a lot.
I've also seen the Chili Pipers play a few times, things can get a bit rowdy. |

It's also been reported in today's Times.
I've not had photography, to my knowledge, but I've experienced groping and prosecco-fuelled questioning. While it doesn't bother me personally - as Oly says, my safety as a bloke is not something I'm usually concerned about - I try to do my best to discourage that kind of behaviour discreetly. I think Andrew's line - "are we trading information?" is a good one. |

![]() Greetings to All, and Especially... to th' Fellows.... :) Well... Hmm... :) This is a much lighter topic... at least... than several of the other... and much more musically dire subjects... that sometimes arise here... and in those other categories... on the Forum. May I... and entirely...on my own... categorize... what to me... seems the gist... of this topic??... and some of the responses?? (And to which I shall add... my own... :) (In sum... for the topic... and some responses... :) "Oh Dear!!... Oh Dear!!... What to do?!... What to do?!" Well... and having been in... The Piping Game... for now some long time (Remember the 60s?? Great Fun!! :) ... I have had all of the aforementioned occurrences... and many much more than once!!... visited upon me... along with some others... not mentioned here... but all of them... at very... close range!!... :) (And... how not?! :) What... then... is a fellow's proper office... and both personal... and public... being the public performers... that we are?? Seems to me... the first responsibility... is to then summon up... as much... Good Grace... as is possible... :) Nought else(??)... kindly take the Lady's actions... as not being ill-intentioned... but rather as... a compliment... :) (Res Ipsa Loquitur) (Seems reasonable. :) And then molding... one's replies and responses... accordingly. :) And for that sometimes inevitable... bit o' chat... that either begins... or surrounds... these sometimes very... verbal/physical interactions... I have come to a bit of interchange... that seems to work well (as in de-fuse... :) . ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ "So whadaya wear under your kilt?" "Oh, you mean pipers, under their kilts?" "Yeah." Oh! That's easy!!... Shoes 'n socks!!... them whats got shoes!!" :) -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- And as for... the rest of it(??)... hands... here and there??... Good Grace... Gentlemen!!... Good Grace!! ... And just like... "a sense o' proper timing "... ever a pipin' fellow's... best friend... and stance... :) Regards... and Happy... and Un-complicated Piping... to All, Pip01
