Sounds like your pipes are the problem. Or you ate still doing something incorrectly. So,...btw...your public profile indicates you began piping 44 yrs ago in 1975. Is that correct?

I have this issue with my solo chanter, which is down in the 470's. My pipes on the other hand would really rather be up around 480+ with most current reeds, which is great for band, but means I need a separate setup if I want to play my solo chanter. I found that Ezeedrone "long" reeds, and Balance Tone "B-flat" reeds both were able to be set just right. They both had plenty of room for adjustment.

good luck

I obtained a set of MG reed extenders...these ca 1-1/4” long x reed body diameter gizmos screw into the end of each drone reed after removing its pitch screw. The MG extender itself has its own pretty standard pitch screw.
These enable a piper to keep already efficient set drone reeds intact by simply ,effectively, changing only the pitch screw.

These have been around for a few years I’ve been told...well kept secret ...I just got a set recently ....and can now easily flip flop to a Bb set up from a ‘normal’ chanter set up ,..or back...in a few minutes without having to recalibrate air efficiency or even remove the reed.

Well done MG...Rory Grossart.
