Default I'd Rather have Jesus

Would anyone still have the video of the piper playing for the funeral of a policeman?
he entered the church playing I'd Rather Have Jesus, up the isle and to the coffin playing the same tune over and over.
A lovely piper and a very stirring video.
A lot of us were asking, "what is that tune" at the time.
This would be 2 - 3 years ago I think. I'm 86, the years pass so fast.
This is my last year for the pipes, fingers are gone. But I started way back in 1943 so I have had a good run.
Anyone that has the video please contact me at;

Hi Ken, I can't find the video anywhere offhand but I know that was Mathew MacWillie of the Nicholson Pipes and Drums who was the Piper. It was an LAPD funeral about 6-7 years ago..I think it was that long...and he played the tune beautifully. I know some of the band and I'll see if I can dig up the video...wish me luck!

I bet that sounds splendid on the pipes!! I'm sure it's difficult anticipating no longer playing the pipes though it seems you have come to terms with it. Thanks for so many years of good music and blessing countless others with your gifts.

Thank you for the help gentlemen.
I sincerely hope the video can be found and we can watch and listen to it again. To me his playing was beautiful and perfect for the occasion.
I have played it many times on the pipes but now only on my electric chanter.
My pipes are finally retired. They were bought by grandfather in 1875 in Glasgow, Scotland. In 1923 they were given and played by my father until 1945 when he presented them to me. Of course the bag(s) and chanter have been changed.
i take them out once in a while, give them a blow but my fingers hurt too much after only 5 minutes. and then I try to place the a little differently in the box. Of course after give the silver a little touch.
My father taught me the basics and then I joined the 2nd. Battalion Toronto Irish Regiment Pipe Band in 1943 -1945.Later played with the Toronto Scottish and finally spent 36 years with the Toronto Service Battalion Pipe Band.

This is really interesting. Thanks, Ken. I really enjoy stories from your generation. How fascinating that the pipes go back that many years and have stayed in the family, from one generation to the next. I know it's an inanimate object, but I'm sure touching the pipes must give you such a sense of warmth and connection, remembering loved ones who once played the very same instrument and gave it to you as an expression of their love for you.

Congratulations on such a long life too. While your fingers going out, it sounds like you mind is well, which is the most important thing. Thanks again for sharing.

Thanks for sharing Mr. Maxwell, I'm sure you have many many many stories you could share.

What a great tradition there is in your pipes!

Hey Ken, I have been looking here and there. Few questions:

Is the tune I'd rather be with Jesus

Also, 2008 Randal Simmons was the first slain LA SWAT member and it was a huge funeral. February 15th or thereabouts.

Mr. Simmons was a huge love of Jesus. So it kind of fits.
Just cannot find a video yet.

Am I searching the correct funeral? Anybody? Thanks.

We will find it sir!!
