Default Your own funeral

I'm sure we all play lots of funerals.
Have you given any thought to your own funeral?
Do you want pipes played? If so, what tunes?

I want a monster-cèilidh ... tunes are negotiable, so long as people gather and enjoy each others' company whilst playing. If I can be remembered for instigating that, and that alone, then that's fine by me.

Anyway, that's me.

Cheers,
~Nate

No pipes at the funeral. No piper. I want my pipes laying symbolically silent on top of the casket or at the foot of the altar. Maybe toss in a broken paintbrush and an empty tube of paint.
And none of the hymns played can be standard funeral fair like "On Beagles Things",the "Yoohoo" song, or that In Paradiso that sounds like "I Got Spurs That Jingle Jangle Jingle". A sniper with a paintball gun will be posted in the choir loft to hit the first person who even so much as hums Amazing Grace.
A brass band playing Deep Harmony/How Sweet The Work would be nice, though.
The wake, however, can be a huge pipe session.

I used to be a tuba player in all sorts of ensembles- orchestras, band, German Bands, Brass Choirs, but especially Trad Jazz bands. I want a jazz band to play Amazing Grace and a piper to play "Didn't He Ramble" ( Yes I've played both for funerals on pipes and on tuba).

I might be the only piper on here who's played over his own grave:

No pipes, my play list is hard rock and heavy metal with a few southern rock oldies from long ago.

Pipes are fine as long as they’re in tune and Amazing Grapes, Going Home, or Highland Catheter are NOT played, or I’ll haunt their drone reeds forevermore.

This guy brought new meaning to a wake https://www.nola.com/music/index.ssf...gets_send.html

Now if only we could figure out how to keep drones steady in the afterlife.

When my buddy Dave died it was sudden and crushing. So I hired a piper and didn't tell anybody. I had him start playing around the corner and walk up to Dave's shop playing something solemn. Somebody threw the garage door open and we just listened. Then, of course he played Amazing Grace and everybody openly wept.

Then he played the bounciest jig he knew and turned and walked away around the corner and we all strained to listen but we never actually heard him stop. He just faded away. It was cathartic.

That's what inspired me to spend thousands of hours making funky bagpipes that nobody wanted.

But if anybody holds a memorial for me I just want Butthole Surfers and Wicked Tinkers, thank you very much.

I have a piping mate that just had his tombstone set into the ground in North Dakota....it's even got the notes of the first part of "Cock of the North engraved on it.

He's going back this summer and will pipe at his own grave.....with his family present but he's not going to tell his family why they've been asked to join him at the cemetery as it will be a surprise ...Klondike Waldo-you're not alone in this category!
