Main reasons for churches splitting: politics over how to run the organization or what direction to take it in.

Thanks for your prompt answers. We have nearly the same problems in our band at the moment and I try to keep a distance.

SwissPiper,

Ah.... people....!!

That always seems to be the main reason for
our many "pipe band difficulties"... as well as
any other groups...

'Twas ever thus...

So oft... so many times... members seem to
confuse their ideas... with them-selves... and
so... ideas meant for the band... become so
personalized...

At which time... many fall (or jump) into the trap of
seeing... who can spout their water the furtherest...

Always best to steer clear... if you can... lest you
be caught in the stream... :)

Good Luck with it!!

or weakish leadership...

who is too autocratic .... not diplomatic... not sharing... not knowledgable...not listening to other band members input/opinions

not communicating his/her vision common goals to the membership and giving them a chance to buy in...

not having a teaching program... and the band withers away or gets too overworked.

not being able to keep the talented folks and the less committed/more amateur types together...

not having an interesting set of gigs and/or repertory to keep the band members interested... such that some leave for another band.

getting split taking sides in an interpersonal feud.

Lack of backup leadership... and you get an overworked pipey... with no succession plan

in addition to all of the prior posters points.

and there are more.

Lack of commitment. Quite simply, some members decide that they don't need to turn up at every practice (usually because they think they are good enough already) and the rot sets in. Resentments start, the overworked pipe-major, pipe sergeant, leading drummer or other key members begin to lose heart and the downward spiral starts.

Lack of participation in running the band
Lack of communication
Failure to replace poor, burned out or failing leadership

Look at your own reasons for leaving a band. Mine run the list, burn out, poor decision making by band leadership, no voice in the band, bad communication on and on.
