The mandolin.net service was simply a frontend to abcm2ps and some image conversion and manipulation tools. It should be easy enough to download the software and roll your own.

Thanks Calum,
I did take a look at abcm2ps and what you suggested sounds doable, but my coding skills are very rusty, so it will be a bigger project than I have time for at the moment. I am wondering if you know much about the mandolin.net service. It would be a shame if it disappeared permanently. If mandolin.net is not able to provide it anymore, I am wondering if anyone else could be convinced. Best regards, Kevin |

Hi,
I'm trying to sort out my mass of paper / photocopies / hand-writen tunes and create my own personal collection of the versions I prefer - so I,ve been trying LilyPond and already hit a problem - how do I creat Leumluaths, Taorluaths, Birls etc - struggling to find this in any documentation. Any help much appreciated. Chas |

Chas, if you google "bagpipe.ly" you should find the file that sets a lot of this up for you.
Kevin, I'm afraid I don't - though I note it seems to be back up and running. As for doing it by hand, I'd say as long as you have abcm2ps and Ghostcript involved, it's easiest to figure out how to do one thing at a time when you need it rather than try to learn everything it can do! |

On a related note ;-), Can someone recommend an app to convert notation or output such as .xml or .sib to ABC?

There's Wim's xml2abc - never used it so I have no idea if it's workable. MusicXML is vastly more featured than ABC so it's easy to write XML that can't be translated. For Sibelius I have heard tell there is an ABC export plugin but don't know anything about it.

Chas1745,
To address your question, Quote:
just include the bagpipe.ly file in your ly file. For example, the top two lines of all my tune files are: \version "2.19.80" \include "bagpipe.ly" The bagpipe.ly file has all the bagpipe specific embellishments included, so you include taorluaths for example by typing "\taor d4" for a taorluath followed by a quarter note "d". Sven Axelsson has a great LilyPond cheat sheet for bagpipe notation on his site at: https://github.com/svenax/bagpipemusic. Look around there and you will find many other goodies using LilyPond as well. All the best! Happy Holidays, Ben |
