Many makers of smallpipes have been supplying their sets with wooden pegs for s long, long time. I would suggest that a pipe maker would know what works and what is best for shutting off drones. Armed with that knowledge, I would not be afraid of using golf tees for drone stoppers.
For poly kitchen pipes, I like the rubber stopper idea, too. I have even used a piece of electrical tape, which can be removed and stuck to the drone top for quick retrieval.
