BTW only the chorus of Mull Of Kintyre fits on the pipes, what do you guys do the rest of the time?

In the original recording the only melody the pipes play is the chorus. The rest of the time they play harmony notes. The pipes are accompaniment. The vocal is the star of the show. It's not really a piece you can play effectively on pipes alone. Without the song it's just a little four-bar ditty.

Precisely.

Here in Australia, a lot of the great unwashed consider the bagpipe riff from the AccaDacca song "It's a Long Way to the Top" a legitimate bagpipe tune and frequently request it. Similarly, with the John Farnham song "You're the Voice". Unfortunately, those two, along with Amazing Grace are probably the three biggest pipe tunes in Australia.

I just shake my head.

It does kind of grow on you. Over the years I can recall having it requested for two funerals and a wedding. Earlier this month it was in the set of tunes for a workshop that had Jack Lee as the instructor, so went over it once again. Popular with the general public, so if you've got the money, honey, I've got the tune (apologies to Willie Nelson).

Cheers -

Wes

There are worse things than Mull of Kintyre, such as being requested to play Amazing Grace on St. Patrick's Day in the middle of a block party... Does this look like a effing funeral?!
