In the original recording the only melody the pipes play is the chorus. The rest of the time they play harmony notes. The pipes are accompaniment. The vocal is the star of the show. It's not really a piece you can play effectively on pipes alone. Without the song it's just a little four-bar ditty. JM

It does kind of grow on you. Over the years I can recall having it requested for two funerals and a wedding. Earlier this month it was in the set of tunes for a workshop that had Jack Lee as the instructor, so went over it once again. Popular with the general public, so if you've got the money, honey, I've got the tune (apologies to Willie Nelson).
