Default Child sized chanters

Does anyone know what the best child size chanters are?
A relative of mine is starting her 6 year old daughter (I know its young, but she really wants to learn!)
Thanks!

I believe David Lindsey makes child-sized chanters if you'd like to buy from a US maker.

I don't know of any makers making practice chanters the size of a child, but I'll do some research for ya.

Default Child sized chanters

The trick with child size chanters is finding one where not only is the spacing smaller but the mouthpiece smaller too since their arms are shorter.

I ordered one from Lindsey but he made a regular length PC top with a D smallpipe chanter spacing. So, I got him to make me another top but he shrunk the chamber and the mouthpiece, so I can't put the top on all the way or it will crush the reed. Additionally, being based on a specific makers smallpipe chanter, the tuning is awful with generic PC reeds. What I was hoping for was a mostly regular chamber but with just a nub of a mouthpiece.

Needless to say, good luck!

Duncan Soutar makes a child-size chanter which I have found to work well.

I have a Kintail, It needed some tape and carving to get it in tune. Which likely, most Child size PC's could use some tape.

To Tune one of my Gibson PCs to it, I put in an Apps PC Reed fairly deep, and a lot of tape.

The next transition, after that... you might consider a Colin Kyo Poly PC, and for Pipe Chanter a Kyo also.

McCallum has a perfect one. I used it for my son. I think only $60. Why spend a small fortune with Lindsey when the child will grow out of it sooner then later. Just my own thoughts.

I bought my grandson one from Brian Donaldson at Inveran Bagpipes. I don't know about the others but his are made completely for a childs hand, not just adding a different chanter bottom to an adult top half. My grandson's hands are still growing into it but it shouldn't take to much longer. He is 6 yrs old now and hopefully it will be there within the year.
