Default Stories behind "Piper's Cave"

All

I was wondering a) the origin of the march Piper's Cave and b) the story/stories behind the name.

I've read:
- the tale about it being a location where MacCrimmon played their famous father's pipes.
- the legend of the piper and his dog piping into a cave but only the dog came out.
- that it was just a bar.

Did the tune derive from a song/poem/piobaireachd ground ??

Are there any more stories behind the name ??

Just my way of filling some time while practising social distancing.

With apologies

With my man eyes, I missed that it was composed by J. Sutherland when he was posted in Egypt in WW1. Still, any information on possible stories behind the name

The Piper's Cave was the pipersí room in the Royal Scots barracks in Cairo, if I remember correctly.

I had always assumed it was named after the band room in Cameron Barracks, Inverness, which was nicknamed the Piper's Cave.

There's a possibility that the Piper's Cave name might have been used for more than one place, but I seem to only recall the Egyptian connection. The tune was written in Cairo and originally published with the title 3rd Seaforth's Farewell to Cairo in the book
The Piper in Peace and War, but I no longer have that book so can't delve into it. I probably got the story from the Piping Times a long time ago.

Yes, it's easy to imagine such a nickname would follow the actual physical location around. But if it was written in Cairo that seems pretty conclusive!
