Default The Gael

Hello all,

This has probably been covered before but the search function is a lot more complex than it used to be....

Looking for where I can find sheet music for a tune called "The Gael" this was the theme for Last of the Mohicans and was also played at the Edinburgh Tattoo.

Thanks

Not that difficult. You type "Gael" in the box and you get Thread

Cheers! Phil

Ah, yes. I was using "advanced search" silly me...

The WAPOL site seems to have had the music posted at one time but now it's just a dead link. No other Piping sheet music to be found.

Anybody else care to take a crack at it?

As WAPOL previously made it freely available and it seems a complete redesign of their website has made it unavailable, <deleted>

I believe that there are some problems because the tune is under copyright to it's composer, Dougie MacLean, and the arranger/co-composer, Trevor Jones. Even if WAPOL had permission from the publishers to put it on their website, which they didn't, you would be breaking international copyright law by redistributing it.

There are two versions of 'The Gael' in a newly published collection from Beithe Publishing, An Ift of Efts. Both the 12/8 march and 6/8 jig versions that have been played by the Manawatu Scottish Pipe Band are included, with chordal harmonies and a countermelody that are derived from Trevor Jones' arrangement.

Both arrangements were arranged and published with permission from Dougie MacLean/Limetree Arts & Music.

You can purchase this collection either from the Beithe Publishing website ( http://www.beithepublishing.com/ift-of-efts.html ) or from the College of Piping (Glasgow) shop.

Thanks for the reminder of Beithe, I still need to grab that "An Appalachian Collection" book!
