Default Which one is it?

Here is a link to 2 bagpipe recordings. One is a vintage 1920 henderson the other is not. Can you tell which pipe is which?

http://www.box.net/shared/2dfgzt8flv

Vote for pipe 1 if you think pipe one is the Henderson
Vote for pipe 2 if you think pipe two is the Henderson
This is just for fun and remember there is no way of telling who voted for what so if you get it wrong don't worry about it. The only person who will know is you.

Zach! Sweet poll dude!

Pipe 1 is crap. Sorry.

Pipe 2 is the Hendersons, the bass gives it away every time.

And if I'm wrong, so what!

Shawn

Fun idea. Would you mind sharing how you recorded it? E.g. equipment, mic position, and room size?

I really like the tune; I think The battle of Crieff will be my next piobaireachd to learn.

I recorded it in a really old building with my teacher Don he can give you the specifics on the equipment we used. As far as the room size im not sure but its not a small room. its a very open large room the building used to be a really old school.

There's so much distortion in the recordings it's hard to tell what's going on. Pipe 1 has less distortion than Pipe 2. If you use the microphone sensitivity switch on the side of the recorder it will turn down the microphone and you'll get better recordings. If you had the switch down, then the recording levels were set too high.

Bob is correct. If you want a visual representation open the files in Audacity (free for Mac, PC, etc.)

Best, John
