Default Drum Harness Foam

I posted this under the DIY section but thought I'd send it out under hear as well to see what I could come up with. I am currently in the process of revamping/upgrading some of our band's old snare harnesses for our tenors to use. I have gotten all the parts I need for repairs but the foam on the back is in bad shape and I have no clue where to find a good substitute. I've checked several places online and a few stores in town. Does anyone have any suggestions? . I am looking for some large enough for the back of the stomach plate, but the most I could find are small strips for the t-bar.

Hi Kenneth, I have found armaflex foam (black foam normally used for air conditioning duct work ) to be by far the best and strongest foam available. I use it on my Brow Fry Bass drum carriers. It comes in different thickness but 3/4 inch would be ideal. Usually available at building product stores. I think Armaflex foam is a product made by Armstrong. ...Brow

Hi Ken , that is it exactly. Contact Cement works really well and even better if you rough up the glue side of foam with course sandpaper before you apply glue. Good luck!......Brow

I was able to finish the harnesses for our tenors just in time for our first competition. They ended up working great and they really liked em. I used old Premier snare harnesses and cropped the top t-bar a couple inches to allow flourishing, had the straps sewn by my mom, attached an eyelet for the drum hook, and shrunk some rubber on the metal tubing to hold the drum steady without scrapping it. Thank you again for the help with the foam info it worked awesome!!!

Great photo. Thanks for sharing it.

I have used foam that I got from a sports/mountaineering shop. It comes in different thicknesses. Just a post-script as what you have done has obviously worked brilliantly.
