Folks, could any of you point me in the direction of the requirements for each grade of solo piping in both the US and Canada? I have pupils competing, and would like to understand the system.
I've looked on EUSPBA and WUSPBA site, but can't see it. Probably not looking properly. Thanks in advance Neil

Thanks, Mr Hamblin, just what the Doctor ordered. Take it this is right across the USA?
Is Canada different? Hope I'm not treading on thin ice here.....

The rules for the EUSPBA are only for the EUSPBA. Other associations may have their own rules, such as the Western United States Pipe Band Association (http://www.wuspba.org/rules/rulesbylaws-index.htm), and the Mid-West Pipe Band Association (http://www.mwpba.org/index.php?optio...=104&Itemid=66).

Neil, for Canada the requirements are pretty much the same across the board ( # of tunes to submit for each grade), but the events offered change (ie: In Ontario, for Grade 2 as an example, the MSR is split--separate March & S/R events, while in Western Canada, a complete MSR is played--you have to submit 2 marches in both regions).
It is different for Jigs as well. Competing in Ontario (Grade 2 as an example again), you only submit 1 Jig. In Alberta, it's either a Jig contest (where you submit 2 tunes), or a Hornpipe/Jig event (1 tune of each submitted). I really wish the requirements were the same no matter where in the Country a person competed. |

Thanks all. Mr Rad, yep, would be good. Maybe we could just have one version of ALL tunes too. My version of course!

For me personally, I have a heck of a time understanding the requirements and grading in Scotland. Can anyone give me an idea of how things are handled, in a nutshell perhaps?
How would a grade one/two player be graded? Does is matter that I'm from Canada? Scot. |

I think you would just register with the CPA and start in grade C. You start up against the big boys unless you're juvenile in age. Neil competes in the C grade.
