So if I were to go to Scotland, say next year, and wanted to compete I'd be in the C grade because that's the lowest adult grade there is (started when I was 36 am 39 now)? FWIW, I compete in WUSPBA G3 here in the states. Is that how it works over there? I guess I won't be worried about competing at any of the games if that's the case.

Not to highjack the thread, but for adult pipers, there is also the CLASP over in Scotland, a relatively recent development (last five years or so):
http://www.theclasp.co.uk/ I have yet to grasp now the CPA and the CLASP interact or if they are parallel organizations . . . maybe with the CPA for more serious pipers and CLASP for serious, but not as accomplished? Dunno. Maybe someone can enlighten me. ![]() Andrew

Not all competitions are graded. There are just as many "open" competitions, but bear in mind, that there you may well find yourself playing against the top players. Just depends who turns up on the day.
C grade is the entry level in adult competition, as ran by the CPA. Downside is that there are some really good players in that grade, guys returning, and the best fresh from the juvenile. If you've only been playing 3 years, I would strongly reccomend the CLASP as Andrew says. You will get constructive feedback here, and if you compete in open or graded comp, you are inelligible for the CLASP. Any comp is generally very encouraging, and the guys are all really friendly. When I started back in 2010, I went into Glenurquhart, and played against Andrew Hayes, who went on to win the gold medal that week. Amongst other top players. I shouldnt really have been there, wasnt prepared, or even playing that well, but all the other guys were totally supportive and encouraging.

was rushing earlier. Also, if it helps, most comps, CPA graded and open, are submit 3 or 4 of each tune type, ie, Piob, M/S/R. If you're lucky, its own choice of H/Pipe, Jig, but sometimes its submit 3 of each there too. Braemar is submit 8 piob!
C piob is own choice, but from B up, it's set tunes, (in graded comp) Thanks for all the info on the North American stuff guys, really useful

Is there anything like this (rule no. 4) in Scotland? Would love to read it if there is. Rule no. 4 spells it out clearly as to what's expected. I would think if I were an overseas player coming to BC, that I'd be quite clear as to where to slot myself in.
Cheers, Scot. |

Yes. If you enter the CLASP, you will be graded. If you enter/join CPA, you will be graded C unless you ask, and are succesful in your attempt, to be assessed capable of competing A or B.
And theoretically, there's nothing to stop ANYONE with the tunes to submit, from competing in open comp. Don't know where and if this is written down
