Older harnesses are a pain. (Ask this old guy with back problems.) The newer Randall-May/Kilpatrick version (the one Piperrat pictured) looks to be much better.

The object is to get the weight of the drum as high up as possible, so the majority of the weight is carried on the shoulders, hence passed down through the spine (the way the body is designed to carry weight) and to the feet. Fewer back problems "later in life" is the goal...

Hey, i am also a female bass player.
    I use this Kilpatrick harness:

I have found no issue with it as you can adjust the front.
Also gives you great support at the back.
If this is the one you are using and still have problems with it, i suggest you try on as many different bass harnesses as possible.
Find out what other bands are using and ask to come to their practice nights or head to a competition day with many different bands.
There is also a option to have one specially made but this can be costly

As a female I fight our Kilpatrick harness - it's obviously built for a guy. The cross bar sits on the girls.

    Bass carrier recommendations

Looking for a bass carrier that allows less ‘weight bearing’ on the chest.

    Any ideas? Suggestions?
