Solution to loose top snare mechanism?

Hi all!

We purchased 3 brand new Premier drums last year.

Right now, at least 2 of them are suffering from loose top snare mechanisms. The bolt (or whatever you call it) intended for tightening the snare is very loose. When I tighten it, the snare sounds nice, but after playing on it for a while the snare goes down by itself. I can actually turn the bolt with my fingers, which I'm guessing I shouldn't be able to do... The bolt in question is so loose that we can also move it up and down a littel bit...Scary isn't it? The problem arose after a while... It wasn't evident from the beginning...

Any suggestions? Should I tighten something in the mechanism itself? Anyone else ever experienced this problem?

There's nothing wrong at all, the mechanism is just set loose. Turn it to finger tightness and then use a drumkey to tension it another's 1/4-1/2 turn or until you get the sound you want. Vibration can cause the bolt to loosen a bit on its own but just keep your eyes open and reset it when you have to.

I have had the same problem. However, just to clarify, when you say "tighten", can I assume you mean raise the height adjustment? I would tune my drum, and after one part of a score, it would sound terrible. I would reach down between parts, and twist the height adjustment with my finges, and it would sound good again for another part. After taking a close look at my drum, I discovered that the two bolt clamp that secures each side of the ISM to the head assembly was loose. A quick crank with a 4mm(I think) allen driver on the two screws should fix the problem.
