    Greetings to All,

Well--and Hmm--Having now seen the new "Dune"--and having
    hit the "rewind button" a few times--to re-hear the piping--while I
do--and always--give great leeway--to most (if not all :-)--artistic
undertakings--I do wish--that the film would have actually--used
    the real--Great Highland Bagpipes--for making--its piping music...

It is a damned fine film!!--and I am- in happy anticipation of its
sequel--but--I do find myself in some concern--that "out there"--
    some--(if not many)--shall mis-construe--and shall labor under
the mis-apprehension--that what they have heard--is Pipe Music--
    which--and quite simply--this just--ain't. :-)

    Enjoy the films!!--and--maybe--next time--we shall hear--and see--
some real Piping--and Pipe Music. :-)

    Regards to All,

    Pip01

    My friends all know,
    With what a brave carouse...

I could not agree more. I, too, saw the film and enjoyed it (though bummed it's Part 1....of how many?). In any event, there is a brief scene of pipes as we know them. Why not the sound as we know them? Is there some concept that pipes, and the music and sound, cannot continue into future centuries? That they must be somehow "electronic" sounding? Yes, synthetic strings and other changes have altered violins, for instance, from the 1600s. Yet it's not been so dramatic a change that we would not recognize those earlier instruments (and, yes, there are those who play them today with the original construction and type strings). I would love to think that pipes will be eternal (notwithstanding all the complaints about pitch, etc. changing).

How high has has chanter pitch climbed by 10191 AD?
If it follows the trend of last 50 years it might be outside of human hearing range, hence the need to dub it in using a synth

Perhaps human hearing will have changed by then, too!

Maybe the air on Arrakis is a dispersive medium.

                Greetings to All,

                May I now--resurrect--an old--"Star Trek" episode--where "Scottie"-- is playing
                the pipes--for a burial service--in deep space--as the coffin is sent out--among
                the stars??

                We have lasted--and grown--this far--and I am well settled--that we--and both
                Present--and Future--and The Pipes--and The Music--shall not falter--nor be--
                obscured...

To paraphrase an Old Brythonic Celtic saying--in translation:
"In spite of everybody--and everything--we--are still here!" :-)

                And--herein--lies my surety:
"As it was in the Beginning, 'tis now and ever shall be.
                World without end. Amen."

                Regards to All,

                Pip01
