Seeking BagpipeTeX help -- fixed length bars and adjusting distance between notes

Over the past few years I've been fighting with two irritating nits MusixTeX/BagpipeTeX

1. I can't figure out how to reduce the space between gracenotes and the regular note immediately preceding. There's a space there about three or four note heads in width.
2. I can't figure out how to specify the width of a bar. I want all the bars in all lines to line up.

If you're proficient in MusixTex, please help me. I'm reasonably sure this is a function of MusixTeX, not of BagpipeTeX.
