Airstream tilt

hi following my thread about the position of my drones,i went for an airstream tilt blowpipe which has made a big difference to my stance and comfort..my next question is this,the blowpipe has a flap valve fitted and I have a moose valve fitted also,do I need both,?i seem to get a bit of moisture between the two which I have to empty?does this seem normal or should I remove moose and put a bottle trap back in.thanks for your comments in advance.

Definately remove the moose...to avoid possibility of back pressure flubbering by the two valves not being in sync at any moment.

The bottle trap won’t hurt...but imho...a vinyl tube trap with an added trap dri is superior.

I’d remove the moose valve;....as great as it is....it does prevent pouring off a vinyl tube trap.

Whereas the tilt valve allows pour off...and no worries about inadvertantly when pulling out the blowstick on parade or otherwise someway khaking up a ‘normal’ flapper valve tied at the end of the blowstick.

Given the option, I'd remove the flapper valve and keep it in my emergency kit. I no longer use a tube in my main set-up because I can pour off the collected condensate in my blowstock periodically, using the Moose valve. I find the Moose valve less restrictive and more solid* then the "li'l Mac" set up I had been using with a tube trap before. * none of that "flatulent" sound of the flap "flapping" with back-pressure leakage periodically.

But again, it depends on balancing your particular set-up with your playing style.

Not intended as a reservoir, moisture build up in a blowstick would be blown directly into the bag no matter what type valve is used. Having a tube/trap dri or bottle trap MCS will help collect /minimize loose condensate.

I think a spare moose valve for emergency would be a simpler chore to install in a minute or two than wrestle with taking off with a plier the swelled tenon of a tilt stick.

I've been playing my pipes with both a Moose & flapper valve on the blowstick for years with zero issues. Never a hint of "back pressure flubbering by the two valves not being in sync at any moment".

For me it's cheap insurance against a catastrophic valve failure.

I too have a blowstick with a built in valve, I also use a Moose valve (more as a spit trap than anything else) and I've never had any clacking or other issues.

Me too. I've done this for years with never a problem. For a short time, I even had three valves at the same time: one integrated in a Gannaway mouthpiece (an excellent mouthpiece no longer being made), one integrated in a Walsh blowpipe and a Moose valve, all without the slightest problem. I simply couldn't be bothered to remove the valves from the blowpipe and the mouthpiece. Two or three valves seem to make no difference, since it is always the valve closest to the bag that will be closed by back pressure. The other valve or valves higher in the blowpipe do absolutely nothing in my experience.
