I have a L&M Scotian bag. Does anyone have advice or opinions on how this bag should be maintained? Thanks.

L&M made their own seasoning for these bags. Not sure if they still make the seasoning since they're not making the bags anymore.

From what I've been told by those who used the bags, it was very similar to Elmer's glue in appearance and consistency, but I don't think it's the same thing.

Was not the scotlan bag their new type bag ‘tanned’ without all the nasty stuff used in tanning the original bags leather; ..hence the scotian used a different type of ‘synthetic’ seasoning.

      IIRC. ??

This description sounds like Frazer Warnock's "The Piper's" Seasoning. Looks like Elmer's and smells a wee bit like it - but it's not adhesive.

Can't say I know... I have yet to drink pipe bag seasoning of any description.

              Is it a new bag?

When mine got old I put Airtight in it.

L&M made proprietary products for seasoning their Scotian bags.

Step 1 was the Sealer, which looked like Elmer's Glue.

                Step 2 was the Conditioner.

Some retailers might still sell them, but I believe they have an expiration date. If the bag is still under warranty, then you might want to use their products if you can find them.

If the bag is out of warranty, it really doesn't matter what you season it with. You could possibly reach out to L&M and see what they recommend you use.

Hmm... For some of us... having breathed in enough of
it... and had even more of it absorbed through our skin...
the taste... oft times... and quite naturally... did settle in...
                    amongst... our taste buds...

And and again... quite naturally... the Guinness was the
                    preferred remedy... for such...

                    My friends all know,

Calum... as John MacInroe once said...”You cannot be serious!”

All my skin bags used Airtight and while the distinctive aroma becomes evocative, the thought of tasting it, either solid or liquid, turns my stomach...

40+ years ago my Dad took some to his (Rolls-Royce turbine engine) works chemical laboratory for analysis.... after a few weeks the verdict came back...

That’s what scotch is for it kills the airtight flavor.
