  • Best Synthie Drone Reeds For 3/4s Set of Cocuswood Old Irish War Pipes

    Greetings to All,

Allow me to begin with that (now :-) Old Adage:
    "Nothing sounds like cane."

But as I shall be playing this set in a wide variety of climes
and temperatures--and my standard Kinnaird Originals--
simply being too large--do not fit--are there any "out here"
    with experience--and recommendations--for smaller synthie
    drone reeds--that will fit--and deliver--that full-bodied--and
robust sound--to which we all aspire??

    All assistance--Greatly Appreciated!! :-)

    Regards to All,

    Pip01

I have wrestled with many sets of drone reeds, in many sets of 3/4 pipes. I purchased the ezeedrone set specifically designed for 3/4 pipes and they were plug and play. On the hempline, well balanced etc...
Only caveat is I'm running them with the original chanter which pitches bang at at 466...Bb...
Quite old Lawries....I also have a Glen, a Robertson and a Stark, but they're not in play so I haven't bothered to try the reeds in them.

      Greetings, Lochie--and Many--Many Thanks!!

I shall conjure up a set--and give them a proper go.

My set is also with its old original (but ABW) chanter--that
      plays--down there--where yours does. :-)

If your other mentioned pipes are standard size--may I
      suggest--the Kinnaird Originals??

      My two Old Sets--1916 Lawries--and 1908-ish O'Cianains--
simply resound with those older Kinnairds--and nought else--
      even comes close!!

      Again--Many Thanks!!

      Regards,

      Pip01

Yes i use the same reeds with MK reed extenders which coincidentally fit to bring it to 440 as I use a HMoore border chanter. For sessions . Just buy new Pip they are not so common and will last forever . Cheers
