  • Mrs. MacKay at War

Mrs MacKay, the famous piper's wife, was President of the local WRI (Womens Rural Institute) during WW2.

One evening she had invited a well-known Polish Ace who flew with the RAF to give a talk on his exploits.
As Lt. Dlugolecki spoke, he grew more and more animated, using his hands to indicate his swooping plane and those of the Germans: "... and then six more Fockers came diving at me out of the sun!"

Mrs. MacKay cleared her throat nervously and interjected, " I think I should explain to the ladies here that the Focker is a type of German aircraft..."

"No, no," cried the Lt., "These Fockers was flying Messerschmitts!"
